Deserts are wonderful animal habitats. And we know so much about them, since scientists have enough patience to sit and scrutinize them for hours, or even a whole day! Scientists who study deserts carefully come up with creative questions. Then, they study more, to come up with answers for those questions, and get more questions. And the cycle goes on and on. To deduce the questions, you have to have a lot of ability, and responsibility.

Desert habitats are usually dry, and receive very little rain.

A few types of deserts are the Semi Arid deserts, the Hot and Dry deserts, the Cold deserts, and the Coastal deserts. As it is said, there is a big scarcity of water in nearly all deserts. Some plants live there as well! Actually, precisely a lot. So, a few types of plants there are Prickly Pear Cactus, Joshua Tree, Saguaro Cactus, Red pancake, Desert Lily, Desert Marigold and the Brittlebush.

There is a desert named the Mojave desert. It’s located in California, United States of America. There is also one in Nevada. Another type of desert is the Chihuahuan Desert. It is located in Mexico. Deserts are arid biomes. Deserts are covering 33% of the Earth. The largest desert is the Sahara desert, located in the northern part of Africa. One place in a desert called the Atacama desert didn’t have any rain for 401 years!

There are hot deserts, and cold deserts. A cold desert can be covered in snow or ice, but sometimes it would be so dry, that the ice cap just sublimates.
